In Vasant Vihar area, a Havaldar shot himself and committed suicide, while another Havaldar tried to kill himself by setting himself on fire at Vijay Chowk. The sergeant has 10 per cent burns. He has been admitted to Ram Manohar Lal Hospital. The concerned police station is investigating the matter.
Havildar Ashok Kumar committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with his service revolver in Vasant Vihar area. Originally a resident of Sonipat, Ashok Kumar was posted in the Security Unit of Delhi Police. His posting was as PSO to an official at the Embassy of Israel. Embassy officials reside at C-8, Western Road, Vasant Vihar.
Ashok Kumar was acquainted with Amit, who was doing duty at some distance. Ashok Kumar had talked to Amit a day ago. Amit is also a resident of Sonipat. Both were to go to Sonepat together on Wednesday. For this, Amit made several calls on Ashok Kumar’s mobile on Wednesday morning. When Ashok did not pick up the phone, Amit came to the PSO room and saw. The lock of the room was locked from inside. After this the incident came to light.
Havaldar sets himself on fire for reinstatement
A Delhi Police sergeant set himself ablaze by sprinkling petrol at around 1.30 pm on Wednesday at Vijay Chowk, near the country’s Parliament House. Panic broke out at Vijay Chowk on seeing the constable engulfed in flames. The policemen present at Vijay Chowk somehow brought the fire under control. Havaldar Kuldeep was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. The constable has suffered 10 per cent burns. However, his condition is said to be out of danger.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police of New Delhi district, Dr. Hemant Tiwari told that Havaldar Kuldeep was under suspension. It is being ascertained where he was posted and why he has taken this step. Parliament Street police station of New Delhi district is probing the matter.
