Delhi’s public transport is preparing to take a new flight in the new year. Along with the expansion of infrastructure facilities, the exercise of providing modern ticketing facilities to the passengers has intensified. After the metro, passengers in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses will also get the facility of National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) by March, for which tender will be held in January.

By March 2023, passengers will be able to travel in DTC and cluster buses also with the same card. At present, tickets are being sold in buses through the charter app. For this, QR cards are installed inside DTC and cluster buses, so that people can scan and travel.

More than 7000 buses of DTC and cluster are operating. Ticketing facility is being provided in the buses through the app. Due to non-availability of ticket facility in buses with metro card, passengers have to face problems. To overcome this problem, the app was started, but for this, passengers have to download another app along with the metro card.

According to Shilpa Shinde, Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation, the facility of NCMC will be provided in Delhi’s buses in the new year. For this, after taking out the tender in January, the target is to start the services by March. The old DTC and cluster buses are fitted with GPS, CCTV cameras and Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETMs). Tickets are being sold through ETMs in cluster buses, while paper tickets and passes are still being sold in most of the DTC buses.

Due to the old system of ticketing, only a small number of passengers still buy tickets through the app. Because of this many times passengers face problems due to cash transactions or lack of change. With the facility of NCMC card in buses from Metro side, passengers will neither need to shell out for tickets nor do frequent cash transactions.

Bus passengers will get these benefits…

  • Same card can be used for metro, bus travel
  • After this, RuPay card can also be used for parking, toll, shopping
  • Neither cash transaction will have to be done nor there will be any problem of open money.
  • At present, service will start from 4G network in buses, after that 5G technology will be adopted.
  • Cashless transaction facility will be available in buses, cards can be used at many places
