The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to issue a circular regarding non-disclosure of the identity of a minor girl undergoing medical termination of her pregnancy and her family. The court made it clear that the name of the victim should not be disclosed in the report prepared by the Registered Medical Practitioners (RMP) and the police. Saying this, the court fixed the matter for hearing on March 10.

Justice Pratibha M Singh passed the direction noting that minors and their families could be forced to undergo abortions from unregistered and unqualified doctors, midwives and courts. The court observed that as per the present situation the doctors are generally reluctant to terminate the pregnancy without disclosing the identity of the minor and her family and without filing a police report. Because of this circular had to be issued. The court is hearing a plea filed by a woman seeking medical termination of pregnancy of her 14-year-old girl without informing the local police about the matter.
