The High Court refused to stay the trial court proceedings against PP Madhavan, private secretary to Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, in the rape case. The court granted time to the victim to present her case on Madhavan’s plea challenging the charge sheet.

During the hearing before Justice Dinesh Kumar, advocate Mamta Rani, appearing for the prosecution and the victim, said that on the basis of all the facts and evidence, the trial court has framed charges against accused Madhavan on September 14, 22. He said that his client has all the evidence and he should be given time to present his side on the challenge petition. Accepting his argument, the court fixed the hearing on April 25, giving time. Advocate Mamta Rani objected saying that there is no ground to stay the hearing and doing so would unnecessarily delay the hearing of the case.
