Delhi: Premium buses will run within 200 km radius of Delhi-NCR, DTC board approves, will get relief

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will soon run premium buses for cities located within 200 km radius of Delhi-NCR. Buses will be electric or CNG equipped with all modern facilities including CCTV, panic button, GPS. In-principle approval has been given for the operation of premium intercity buses in the DTC board meeting. After getting the green signal, the way has been cleared for running intercity premium buses. The launch of the premium bus service is expected to provide relief to lakhs of commuters traveling daily between the cities of Delhi-NCR. Also, the board has provided free charging facilities at the depots to encourage the use of two-wheeler electric vehicles among the DTC employees. Has also given permission to do so.

DTC employees will be able to avail loan from financial institutions empaneled with Delhi Finance Corporation (DFC) under Delhi EV Policy-2020 for purchase of e-vehicles. In the meeting, it was also approved to give the benefit of three national holidays to the contractual employees of DTC. Delhi Transport Minister and DTC Board Chairman Kailash Gahlot said, Delhi Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has always been at the forefront of providing best services to its employees and citizens of Delhi. Commuters traveling long distances will get the best of facilities in the new premium buses of DTC. Free EV charging facilities and benefit of 03 National Holidays to contract employees reflects our commitment to provide best facilities to our employees.

Premium buses will be equipped with modern facilities
DTC has been planning to introduce premium buses on longer routes for a long time. Soon after getting the board’s approval, premium buses will start operating for cities located within 200 km radius of NCR. Intercity buses plying on long distances will be Bharat Stage (BS-6). The buses will be equipped with modern facilities for the convenience and safety of long distance passengers.

Charging will be free
To promote electric vehicles in Delhi, DTC board will provide free charging facility to all its employees having electric vehicles. It has been approved. Two-wheelers have been given priority in the Delhi EV policy. Already, the Delhi government is providing incentives up to a maximum of Rs 30,000 per vehicle for purchase of two-wheelers with a battery capacity of Rs 5,000 per kilowatt hour. At present, 38,000 employees of DTC are employed. A recent survey revealed that 45 per cent of the employees use two-wheelers for commuting to office. Range concerns and charging of vehicles are one of the major challenges for electric vehicle owners. With the facility of free charging, the number of e-vehicles is expected to increase further.
